The end client is a leading company in large scale distribution which created the first Supermarket Chain in Italy. It soon grew to become today's biggest Italian supermarket chain, with more than 100 stores, supermarkets and superstores, located in Lombardy, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, Piemonte and Veneto. IconMedialab, Milan was chosen as technology partner in implementing an IBM powered solution for their enterprise intranet portal, and our consultants took an important part in the portal development.
As part of Icon Medialab team we worked on the development of Retail Intranet Portal, aimed to provide advanced communication between sales managers and company headquarters. Simplicity and efficiency were the two key words for this project. All commonly used business-to-employee applications, such as address book, on-line chat, corporate news etc. had to be just few clicks away.
Major challenge was the given time frame. All applications had to be integrated within existing company resources, such as main database and company infrastructure. It was crucial to comply with the standardized company procedures. Customer feedback was wery important, resulting in division of almost all development phases into smaller iterations, with end user testing in between.
In cooperation with customer it was desided that WebSphere is the best solution for integration of existing information structure and implementation of all required functionalities. Given the overall complexity, a lot of research had to be done to find ways of connecting between different technologies. activeZ part of the team consisted of one System Administrator and two WebSphere/Java/JSP/SQL programmers, playing a very important role in the project.
